Back on my Mat

It’s been a while. With mat and patch I ventured to my favourite teacher to practise yoga in a room of people again. Yoga is a way of life so I haven’t let that go throughout the last few weeks of chaos- there’s been many a time that I have called upon my breath to guide me through a moment of despair or fear.

So ‘Down Dog’ is not comfortable! A little too much pressure on the old eyeball still containing sutures, but bless Patricia, there were only two of those. The most intense part of the practice for me today was the lack of vision. It’s incredible to truly focus inside and not use your eyes. It is also a lot more comfortable than staring with one eye at a fixed point while maintaining balance.

My body responded reasonably well to practise- it’s been a while but it was beautiful to feel the flow and accept the occasional stumble from posture with a smile.

The beginning of my day had an interesting turn of events. I suppose the patch stands out, especially as I do have a selection of beautifully coloured designs from a lady in America. (JuLLuJ on Etsy)

“Did I see you on TV?” “Are you the lady with that cancer, I can’t remember the name of it?” and then someone I knew who didn’t know my story- fascinated to catch up. Meanwhile my phone was sending me final drafts of an article I’ve written for Hiya Bucks, a local magazine. All to raise awareness and tell my story. If only ONE person thinks to themselves that something may be wrong with their eyes and follows my advice to have it checked, then my intentions are fulfilled.

Driving at night- my face ladened with stuff! One patch, my glasses and then over the top I have the yellow polarized glasses too to help combat the glare post radiotherapy. I feel like I’m at the opticians almost hearing the voice when they ask ‘Now can you see clearer with 1, or 2? 3 or 4!’ So with children delivered safely I return; tired from concentrating but happy to be being Mum.
