So after an hour and a half of trying to ascertain the difference between an N and a Z or a B and an S, the lovely ladies I saw yesterday have concluded that there may be a chance that a surgical tuck could make a difference to the double vision. A quick face lift would be perfectly acceptable while they’re doing nips and tucks. The corresponding area to the radiotherapy and tumour site is however struggling as far as visual field goes. This is the part of my vision that still seems like I’m looking through frogspawn. It was suggested I could wait until that part goes completely and then the double vision as I look down wouldn’t bother me so much. I have however taken the decision and asked that it be corrected to help me see better as I put one step in front of another. Apart from helping greatly when walking the dog and avoiding tree roots in the woods, it also makes a massive difference to the application of the fine eyeliner on an international TV presenter. (But I’ll keep that one to myself!) Things are moving forward with the gala fundraiser. It was incredible to stand in the room as an empty shell at the Waldorf Hilton, London, knowing that on the 27th of September it will be filled with people and entertainers all there for one cause, raising awareness and money for Ocular Melanoma sufferers. I often wonder whether spending quite so much time working with the charity, talking to other patients and responding through my blog is not giving me a chance to try and move on and ignore the sometimes dark shadow of OM that hangs over me. I then think logically about the fact that most weeks I have at least one appointment in relation to this blasted disease, And every time I look out of my eyes it is there in front of my face, so it actually makes no difference and I will soldier on and do everything I can to try and make change.
